On Being – Thich Nhat Hanh
Thich Nhat Hanh is a Vietnamese zen monk, poet, and peacemaker. He co-founded the An Quang Buddhist Institute, the Van Hanh Buddhist University in Vietnam, and Plum Village, a Buddhist training monastery. Hanh also authored a handful of books, and one of them, The Miracle of Mindfulness, really impacted my life in 2013. My biggest takeaway was that I can meditate while doing mundane task, like washing the dishes. Ever since, I haven’t used a dishwasher. I enjoy washing the dishes by hand, it’s my daily meditative routine.
Last July (2016), Hanh was on @onbeing podcast with Krista Tippett to talk about why mindfulness is so important, how to free yourself from wrong perceptions, why suffering helps us and how compassion reduces suffering, collective awakening and more. I was surprised with Hanh’s good English, just make sure you have the volume all the way up, because Hanh speaks very softly. Link in bio. Enjoy a mindful #humpday! ??
